How do I accept both USD and ZWG payments?

Collecting USD and ZWG without mixing them up

Updated 17 September 2026 · 2 min read

Zimbabwean businesses live with two currencies at once. A customer might pay in USD today and ZWG tomorrow, and your books have to keep them straight. The wrong tooling blends them into one meaningless total; the right tooling never does.

The golden rule: never blend currencies

USD and ZWG are not interchangeable, and no honest system pretends otherwise. Adding a USD balance to a ZWG balance produces a number that means nothing and that you can’t reconcile, bank, or report on. Each currency must be collected, displayed and settled on its own.

How clean multicurrency works

  • Collect separately. A USD charge is a USD charge; a ZWG charge is a ZWG charge. The customer sees the price in the currency they’re paying.
  • Display separately. Your dashboard shows a USD balance and a ZWG balance side by side — never a single summed figure.
  • Settle separately. USD settles as USD to the right account; ZWG settles as ZWG. The advice for each names its own payments and deductions.

Fees and conversion, named

Where a fee or a currency conversion applies, it should be itemised in that currency on the settlement advice — not buried in a blended rate. If a card payment comes in as USD, it lands in your USD balance and settles as USD, with any conversion shown explicitly. Your accountant should never have to reverse-engineer what happened.

What this means for pricing

Because the currencies stay separate end to end, you can price in whichever one a product should sell in, run promotions in one without distorting the other, and file returns with the figures already split the way the tax authority expects.

How Lango handles it

Lango collects, displays and settles USD and ZWG separately and never sums across currencies — by design, because no gateway honestly can. Every balance, every advice and every report keeps the two apart, so your reconciliation is correct without any manual untangling.
